Feature · Environments

Same requests, different targets, one click.

Point an entire collection at local, staging, or production without touching a single request — switch the active environment and every {{variable}} resolves somewhere else the next time you send.

Why it matters

Stop editing URLs by hand.

Three things environments replace.

One active environment at a time

Switching environments deactivates the previous one automatically — there's never ambiguity about which set of values a request is actually using when it sends.

Secrets stay masked, per environment

Each environment variable can be flagged secret independently — a production API key stays hidden in the UI while a local one stays visible, even though both live under the same variable name. Same secret-handling rules as collection and local variables.

No duplicated collections

One collection, several environments — instead of a copy-pasted "Staging" version of every request next to a "Production" one, the same requests just resolve differently depending on which environment is active.

FAQ

Environments, answered.

The practical questions before you set up your first environment.

Can two environments be active at once?

No — activating an environment automatically deactivates any other active environment in the same workspace, so exactly one is in effect at a time.

How is this different from a collection variable?

A collection variable is fixed for that collection regardless of context. An environment variable changes depending on which environment (local, staging, production) is currently active — and per HTTP Titan's precedence rules, environment overrides collection when both define the same name.

Do secret variables work the same way across environments?

Yes — a variable marked secret in one environment stays masked in the UI and redacted from logs and exports, independent of whether the same variable name is marked secret in another environment.

Are environments shared across a whole collection, or per request?

Per workspace — an active environment applies to every request you send in that workspace, not just one collection or one request.
